I am just about to launch my latest novel, Stina. This is the story of a fourteen-year-old girl who arrives into Brisbane with her father, four younger brothers and step-mother in 1872 to begin a new life after leaving their native Sweden. What Stina finds is a lifetime filled with hardships and loss with occasional periods of happiness. She must draw on every ounce of her resilience, her viljestark, to see her through.
I recently entered a chapter from the novel I am presently working on, Botany Boys, in a short story contest run by HNSA (Historical Novelist Society of Australasia). Three stories were short-listed from the many entries and mine, called The Driver, was one of them. You can read it by clicking on the title.
